June 25 - FAIR Plan Faces Growing Lawsuits Over Denied Smoke Damage Claims

Amid a groundbreaking investigation from The New York Times into homes left standing by the Eaton Fire now contaminated with toxic smoke, homeowners affected by the January wildfires in Pacific Palisades and Altadena continue to face an uphill battle with the California FAIR Plan, the state’s insurer of last resort. As complaints mount, the California Department of Insurance has launched a formal investigation and demanded that it revise its policies, which the state deems unlawfully narrow. Lawsuits filed on behalf of over 100 fire victims allege that FAIR is refusing to fully investigate and pay out legitimate smoke damage claims, leaving many families financially and emotionally drained.
