August 14 - SCE Considers Suing Public Agencies Over Eaton Fire

Southern California Edison has notified nine public agencies that it may sue them to share liability. Investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing, with Edison exploring whether factors like delayed evacuation alerts contributed to the damage. The utility has also announced a voluntary wildfire recovery program for victims, though participating would require giving up legal claims. SCE’s potential liability could be covered in part by California’s $21 billion Wildfire Fund, but administrators warn that Eaton Fire losses may strain the fund.
