March 17 – Attorneys appointed to lead consolidated Eaton Fire litigation against SCE

A Los Angeles judge has approved a team of over 50 law firms to lead more than 130 lawsuits against Southern California Edison for its role in the Eaton Fire. This team will help organize the legal efforts while allowing wildfire victims to choose their own attorneys. Each firm is contributing $50,000 to help cover the high costs of preparing these complex cases, which can cost up to $2 million.

In addition to the lawsuits from individuals and businesses, other teams will represent local governments like Los Angeles County and insurance companies in separate cases. These teams plan to file their main complaints within the next 60 days. Some lawyers have suggested class action lawsuits, but many believe these are not the best option for wildfire cases. Instead, they are focusing on a faster approach to ensure a fair resolution without unnecessary delays.
